Blue In Heaven- All the God’s Men LP

Blue In Heaven were a band I covered ages ago, before Systems of Romance became more album-focused. However, as I’ve just nabbed a copy of their debut record off Ebay for a mere buck (a refreshing change from the usual prices most albums I post fetch), I figure it’s appropriate to revisit them for a full length feature.

A quick recap: Blue In Heaven formed in Dublin in 1982, and quickly gained a heavy cult following due to their post-punk edge, recalling the likes of early Bunnymen, the Chameleons, and U2 (who championed the budding band every chance they could). Their first record was produced by Martin Hannett, notorious for his production work with Joy Division/New Order and the rest of the Factory family.

The band’s discography consists ofr a handful of singles, two full length records (1985’s All the God’s Men and 1986’s Explicit Material), and a final EP (if anyone has this, please send it my way). The band split in 1989, and soon after, they reformed with a slight shift in direction as Blue Angels, who released one full-length record in 1993.

Here’s the info and link for Blue In Heaven’s debut:

  1. This, my friend, is fucking good.

I love how the first track throws you off with pleasant but forgettably textbook eighties pop and then the album rolls up its sleeves and gets serious.

Any chance of making “I Just Wanna” with decent sound quality available?

I´ve been looking for this songs for years and years and years, and lately I´ve found the video on youtube, but it´s not the same.

Any Record label interested in re-releasing Blue In Heaven catalog?

Here it is a fan waiting for the time to come

Thanks for posting this!!!!!!! I’ve been looking for this band for a long time!! Cool songs.

  5. One of my all time favourites. If anyone is interested, I’ve ripped from cassette a concert they performed for 2FM in Nov. ’85. This is a radio broadcast and is in pretty good condition for a cassette that is almost 25 years old. Post reply if anyone interested.

    Cheer,
    Me.

  8. Without doubt one of the finest live bands I've ever seen, I have their entire output plus Blue Angels on CD. never was an official cd release, great to see some other fans out there.

so, i've been openly perusing this blog for a bit tonight. i have decided we have to connect somehow.

probably mainly because my area manager boss' name is Therin, and i can't not make some masturbatory theremin WHEEEE-EEERRR gesture every time i see him.

and i own much korg gear. and am not so much a keyboardist as my keyboards are humanists via me.
    and analog for life…!

god bless the creepy internet and my love of blue in heaven.

  10. frankie teardrop Says:

the internet strikes again! always a pleasure to meet someone continuing the humanistic path of analog gear, and exploring the sounds that come along with it.

does that boss even know what a theremin is? explaining it by use of sound effect and invoking 50s horror flicks grows tiresome…

I have information on The Lights Go Out. It was repurposed into ‘In Your Eyes’ which was featured on the 1984 single and All The God’s Men. Shane O’Neill told me this. He might be able to digitize old unreleased music such as another song called “Party Affair”
