Teenage Brain Surgeon- Fatal Day 7”

I don’t tend to buy into the whole “holy grail” aspect of the minimal synth genre, but I’m tempted to make an exception for today’s post. In short, I was first clued in to Teenage Brain Surgeon‘sexistence by fantastic fashion guru and DJ Jeralyn, who runs I’ll Wear Any Color as Long as It’s Black. We were only able to track down 2/3rds of their sparse discography, but I was fortunate enough to stumble upon the final, elusive track in my late-night travels. Huzzah!

There’s virtually no information available about this German band, as this is their lone release. The limited edition 7” (1,000 copies are said to be in existence) was self-released in 1988. Extremely rare, but extremely solid, all three of these tracks are ripe for the dance floor, chock full of infectious electronics and a stomping beat- very EBM friendly if that’s you’re thing. The title track is especially choice, and never fails me in a DJ set.

If anyone out there has any information whatsoever regarding this band, feel free to chime in! Otherwise, let’s get to the good stuff, shall we?

  1. FINALLY! I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH!

haha. so weird to read this. after having recorded the songs (in 1988), we didn't have a chance to listen to them before pressing. and when we finally did, we didn't want to release the single at all, because we were so disappointed by the result. from the initial 1000 copies approx. 300 were given to friends and fans etc.
"Fatal Day" is the only record we ever made (but we released a few tapes then).

but nice to hear that "it never fails in a DJ set" in 2009.

yes! i absolutely love this 7'', all three tracks. even though i only have the songs digitally, they still sound fantastic! definitely one of my favorites of the genre.

i would LOVE to hear the cassette material if you happen to have any kicking around, and i'm sure folks would be interested if there were any more copies of the 7'' up for sale. otherwise, thanks for dropping a line!

  4. Teenage Brain Surgeon Says:

oh, thanks. so you don't have a copy of the 7" yourself? is there a postal address where I can send it to?

for the cassette material and more copies of the 7", I guess I have to have look into the basement at my parent's place. if I find the time…

i'm afraid i don't! i have a good portion of the stuff i post here, but i also get a lot of generous donations. jeralyn above tracked down the first two tracks and passed them on, and after months of looking, i stumbled on the "cold" just the other day.

if you have an email address, i would be happy to send my address over— if you have a paypal address, i'd be happy to purchase one off you myself!

  6. I'll send you my mailaddress via your MySpace-Page.
