Sorry guys, some errors on the Unreleased Vol. 1 tape I posted last night. Some as simple as tagging, and one has a track out of order. I had to pull the plug on the post for the time being, but you can expect it back up ASAP (most likely tonight or very early tomorrow).

In the meanwhile, most of the backlogs have been reuploaded. Just a handful more to go. Stay tuned!

A brief reminder, folks. I am always happy to reupload posts as appropriate. Over the course of this blog’s existence, I’ve had several issues with file sharing sites, especially Zshare. Many of the old links are still in working order, while others are not. Should a link no longer work, please let me know in a comment, and I will sort it out as soon as time allows.

However, nasty comments are not appreciated, and if they continue, I will no longer be willing to reupload and update old posts. Keep that in mind next time you decide to chastise someone for providing you with free music.

Pardon the technical difficulties- it seems as if both the Troubled Gardens and the Chrisma files were corrupt at some point. Troubled Gardens was reuploaded immediately on Friday, so track 1 (“Voice Carryovers”) should now be intact. The Chrisma discography issue has just been brought to my attention today, and it has been reuploaded. With 200+ downloads before a single complaint, I’m surprised no one mentioned it sooner!

Hopefully, the problem has been rectified- but do chime in and let me know if not.

Housekeeping Pt. 2

Ok, kids. The Plague LP link has been restored. Click here for the amended post. As promised, the track order has been fixed, and the skip on “Empress” has been rectified with a fresh rip of that particular track (downloadable as a separate mp3 for extra convenience. Download with confidence!

Taking down the link for The Plague LP for now- was informed of a rather nasty skip on one of the tracks, and the mismatched tracklisting bugs me to no end. I’ll have a fresh link ready in a day or so, and I’ll upload the fixed tracks separately as well. Sorry for the trouble, folks.

Zshare restored

As far as I can tell, zshare is back up and running. Happy downloading! Expect some new treats next week!

EDIT: site seems to be going up and down all day. Hopefully they sort the problem out soon. In the meantime, please be patient!

Word Verification/Spam Filtering

Posted in Uncategorized on November 19, 2009 by Frankie Teardrop

As a brief aside, my apologies to all readers for the word verification system I’ve placed here on the blog. I’ve been getting far too many spam comments lately, and would like to put a right stop to it.

Now back to yr regularly scheduled programming…

Just a brief bit here to address something. I have removed my email address from the side bars and profiles due to an overwhelming amount of inappropriate emails from band managers and promoters. In short, I am all for discovering and promoting new music, but the amount of emails coming in promoting music that is in no way appropriate for this blog has been overwhelming and downright annoying.

I used to try giving each a whirl, and it’s not that the majority of them are bad (though some are), it’s just not what this blog is meant for. Any new artist I promote on these pages is at my own discretion and at my own discovery, and are truly new artists I believe in 100%. So if you see this, please think twice about sending an email with an EPK, myspace profile, links, or lengthy review poaching, because chances are, it will end up in the digital trash box.

To those eager to send a more appropriate email about bands in question, requests, and the sort, I apologise for cutting off the most direct form of communication, but should you need to be in touch, please leave comments in the blog and I will get back to you posthaste.

PS- Stay tuned over the next day or two for some rare Airstrip 1 material!

New Music Corner: Automelodi- ‘Fait ses Courses’

Posted in Uncategorized on April 6, 2009 by Frankie Teardrop

Based in Montreal, Xavier Paradis has been a forerunner of the recent North American resurgence of minimal synth music since his days as Arnaud Lazlaud, active since the 1990s. Under new moniker Automelodi, Paradis has once more unveiled a succinct handful of ice cold, yet infectious tunes ripe for the masses.

The freshly released Fait ses Courses EP, available via Wierd Records, is heavily influenced by the original French coldwave movement. The EP shares a deliciously similar aesthetic once explored by the likes of Martin Dupont, Babel 17, and Trisomie 21, while injecting the moody atmosphere with fun and fancy-free dance grooves and minimal electronics that call some of the best Italo Disco to mind. Despite these touchstones, Fait ses Courses is remarkably transcendent, flirting with a sound that will both shed light on past triumphs and influence many to come.

Paradis’ vocals, primarily recorded in French, still convey emotion even at the lightest, spoken whisper. The result is a highly romantic, fresh, and imaginative offering that not only swells the heart, but stimulates the body. It’s damn near impossible to sit still while listening to Fait ses Courses, as each of the EP’s main tracks are polished and primed for even the grittiest of dance floors. For those paying attention, there’s even a hidden track nestled between a few moments of ambient street noise, a classic instrumental interlude in its own right, and a welcome addition to an otherwise short, but sickly sweet collection.

On the wake of this tremendous release, Automelodi is gracing New York’s own underground minimal synth and coldwave scene, and aims to take the city by storm for two performances this week. The first takes place this Wednesday at Home Sweet Home, an East Village haven for Wierd Records’ own weekly minimal gathering. As previously mentioned, Wierd Records founder Pieter Schoolwerth continues to cultivate and educate in the ways of cold, analog electronics, and many of the bands on the Wierd roster have worked wonders for the necessary fostering and rebirth of the genre. Wednesday’s heavily anticipated recital begins at the stroke of midnight, but Automelodi will also be offering a repeat performance at The Annex this Saturday, joined by Xeno and Oaklander, one of the very best acts this city has to offer. Not convinced yet? Take a listen to “Schéma Corporal,” one of Automelodi’s most striking tracks:

Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to report that the entire 2008 backlog of Systems of Romance has been reuploaded and is live once and for all! It was a tedious, tedious process, so thanks for your patience. Feel free to scour the backlogs for fresh links, and if anything is amiss, drop me a note.

Otherwise, I have a post ready for this afternoon, so expect regular activity to resume on a more steady basis. Happy (post)holidays!
