{"id":1445,"date":"2012-07-23T23:42:48","date_gmt":"2012-07-23T23:42:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/?p=1445"},"modified":"2024-02-14T20:43:02","modified_gmt":"2024-02-14T20:43:02","slug":"necropolis-of-love-in-search-of-12-the-graffiti-1-31-1985","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/necropolis-of-love-in-search-of-12-the-graffiti-1-31-1985\/","title":{"rendered":"Necropolis Of Love- In Search Of&#8230; 12&#8221; \/ The Graffiti 1.31.1985"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Uploading this as I just came across\u00a0a copy and haven&#8217;t seen it posted out there before.\u00a0 This is the final piece of the Necropolis of Love puzzle, which began with a minimal synth-tinged 7&#8221; in 1982 and ended with 1984&#8217;s <em>The Hope<\/em>, which is a seminal piece of post-punk from the West Coast scene (the guitar version of &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Yto8PLzKrio\">Talk<\/a>&#8221; remains a constant staple in my DJ sets).<\/p>\n<p>However, this record walks a fine line between both sounds, catching the band in a transitional phase.\u00a0\u00a0&#8220;Dance,&#8221; despite the surface-level title is an excellent wave track with club aspirations, the best\u00a0moments\u00a0being the ascending synth lines.\u00a0 A different version of track also appears on <em>The Hope <\/em>12&#8221;.\u00a0 &#8220;Debutante&#8221; is a rhythm-based track that reminds me of a more dance-oriented St\u00f6rung, with blaring saxophones to break up the repetitive rhythms.\u00a0 &#8220;Cafetown&#8221; is the weakest song here, a jerky number with lyrics that seem to criticize California coffee-shop types.<\/p>\n<p>This 12&#8221; was released in a generic sleeve- likely in small numbers, and it seems the scarcest of all the Necropolis of Love releases.\u00a0 The copy I have didn&#8217;t sound that wonderful, but between the record cleaner and a little even-handed click removal, it should be a serviceable listen until a better copy presents itself\u00a0.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve only heard one other rip of this 12&#8221; before (overblown and tinny sounding) but it seems to have similar\u00a0issues, so this is\u00a0perhaps a common pressing problem.\u00a0 If anyone else has a better sounding copy out there, feel free to get in touch!<\/p>\n<p>As a bonus, I&#8217;ve uploaded a radio session the band performed on KSUF in 1985, featuring several unreleased tracks as well as a few familiar favorites.\u00a0 This has been floating out there for some time but I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s been blogged before either, so I&#8217;ll include it for anyone who missed it the first time around.\u00a0 It seems the band has shed some more light on their time together, and there was to be an album deal with Sire records but it ultimately fell through.\u00a0\u00a0 Curious if some of these tracks were\u00a0 being considered for the LP&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/necropolis-of-love-in-search-of-12-the-graffiti-1-31-1985\/necropolisoflove-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3153\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3153\" src=\"http:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/necropolisoflove-300x293.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"293\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/necropolisoflove-300x293.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/necropolisoflove.jpg 392w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Necropolis of Love- <em>In Search Of&#8230;<\/em> 12&#8221;<br \/>\n1.
