{"id":1512,"date":"2012-09-14T23:54:29","date_gmt":"2012-09-14T23:54:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/?p=1512"},"modified":"2024-02-14T20:41:43","modified_gmt":"2024-02-14T20:41:43","slug":"breathless-nailing-colours-to-the-wheel-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/breathless-nailing-colours-to-the-wheel-12\/","title":{"rendered":"Breathless- Nailing Colours To The Wheel 12&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In general, I&#8217;ve always found Breathless to be one of the most underrated bands\u00a0in the post-punk\/dreampop spectrum.\u00a0 While many are familiar with Dominic Appleton&#8217;s voice via This Mortal Coil&#8217;s sophomore release <em>Filigree and Shadow<\/em> (and one track on <em>Blood<\/em>), few I talk to seem familiar with his own band, which existed beforehand and still exists today (new album in the works).\u00a0 It&#8217;s a shame, as the majority of their material is among the best I&#8217;ve ever heard.\u00a0 Predating My Bloody Valentine&#8217;s stylistic shift by a few years, there are sounds at play that would soon become shoegaze staples.\u00a0 Tremendous layered guitars.\u00a0 Dream-like atmosphere and epic swells.\u00a0 Rhythmic bass.\u00a0 Appleton&#8217;s singular vocals.\u00a0 Throw in John Fryer&#8217;s always amazing production (especially on the killer drumming) and you have something truly\u00a0special.<\/p>\n<p>While a good majority of the band&#8217;s material has been reissued or compiled, it seems like this 12&#8221; has fallen by the wayside, outside of two tracks which appear elsewhere on full length records.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t seen it blogged before (though I could be wrong), and most rips I&#8217;ve come across are lacking in bitrate or depth.\u00a0 So, with that in mind, here&#8217;s a crystal-clear rip of this fantastic 12&#8221; from 1986.\u00a0 Every track here is perfection, and the opening song &#8220;Bad Blood&#8221; (an exclusive to this 12&#8221;) may just be a contender for my favorite song of all time.<\/p>\n<p>You can easily find this 12&#8221; for sale for rather cheap, proof that sometimes the best records are often very\u00a0affordable.\u00a0 No post-punk collection should be without this record.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/breathless-nailing-colours-to-the-wheel-12\/breathlessnailing\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3140\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3140\" src=\"http:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/breathlessnailing-300x296.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/breathlessnailing-300x296.png 300w, https:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/breathlessnailing.png 562w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Breathless- <em>Nailing Colours To the Wheel<\/em> 12&#8221;<br \/>\n1.
