{"id":1825,"date":"2013-05-03T21:51:43","date_gmt":"2013-05-03T21:51:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/?p=1825"},"modified":"2024-02-14T20:35:13","modified_gmt":"2024-02-14T20:35:13","slug":"language-from-memory-fortune-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/2013\/05\/language-from-memory-fortune-7\/","title":{"rendered":"Language From Memory- Fortune 7&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>England was ripe with excellent DIY post-punk and minimal synth gems, bands inspired by Factory Records, early Cure singles, etc.\u00a0\u00a0Some of my favorite 7&#8221;s (Obscure By Degrees, Persons Unknown etc.) were birthed from this era with the same aesthetic.\u00a0 So with that in mind, here&#8217;s another obscure gem from Towerbell Records, released in 1981.\u00a0 This is the one and only single from Language From Memory, who disappeared into the ether soon after recording this 7&#8221;.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a shame, as the a-side here truly kicks ass, one of the best undiscovered gems I&#8217;ve stumbled upon in recent times.\u00a0 Incisive guitars, Sad Lovers and Giants-esque string synths, and catchy, fist-pumping\u00a0hooks abound.\u00a0 Power pop lovers will also enjoy the flip.<\/p>\n<p>The band were from northern London, and played out quite often in the early 80s.\u00a0 As for their disappearance, I believe they changed names and continued on together.\u00a0 A fan who knew the band back then states that Nick Head played rhythm guitar on this single.\u00a0\u00a0The name\u00a0may be familiar to some, as he also acted as producer\/engineer for KMFDM and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DXQD_kC17f8\">Exit 13<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This single is also proof that not all obscurities are out of budget, as there are tons of copies out there to be had for relatively cheap, even by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/sell\/list?release_id=1928339&amp;ev=rb\">discogs<\/a> standards.\u00a0\u00a0 Towerbell seemed to have some backing behind it, and a decently stacked roster, which was formed out of the disco era and included Shirley Bassey and Justin Hayward (Moody Blues) as well as a series of popular TV series compilations.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t heard of much else from the label, so perhaps this single is an anomaly, but either way, aspiring collectors should have no problem finding a copy for themselves&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/2013\/05\/language-from-memory-fortune-7\/languagefrom\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3088\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3088\" src=\"http:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/languagefrom-300x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/languagefrom-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/languagefrom-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/languagefrom.png 596w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Language From Memory- <em>Fortune<\/em> 7&#8221;<br \/>\n1.
