{"id":2129,"date":"2013-11-05T17:17:19","date_gmt":"2013-11-05T17:17:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/?p=2129"},"modified":"2024-02-14T20:25:40","modified_gmt":"2024-02-14T20:25:40","slug":"the-floor-discography","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/the-floor-discography\/","title":{"rendered":"The Floor- Discography"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/the-floor-discography\/thefloor\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2136\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2136\" src=\"http:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/The+Floor.jpg\" alt=\"The+Floor\" width=\"342\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/The+Floor.jpg 342w, https:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/The+Floor-300x219.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 342px) 100vw, 342px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A good friend of mine recently gave me some sage advice. \u00a0To paraphrase, he mentioned that it&#8217;s a crime to dig <em>too much<\/em> into the distant past, for fear of ignoring more recent bands who are making incredible music. \u00a0By doing this, it only dooms modern bands to the same fate as their forgotten predecessors.<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t agree more, and while I&#8217;m still on the hunt for forgotten 80s treasures (and have plenty more coming in the mail, mind you), there are quite a few bands from the turn of the century that have already fallen by the wayside in lieu of their more Pitchfork-centric peers. \u00a0 While the post-punk resurgence of the mid-2000s wasn&#8217;t the true second coming we all hoped it would be, there are still several bands who managed to make some incredible music, overshadowed by bands like Interpol, The Strokes, The Rapture, etc., who dominated the scene.<\/p>\n<p>I received a lot of great feedback about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/2012\/08\/branches-distance-cd\/\">Branches<\/a>, another band that Jason recommended and shared a rip of here, and with his advice in mind, I plan to share a handful of more recent bands that we&#8217;re both fond of. \u00a0First up is The Floor, a Canadian band who flirted with electronics, classic post-punk bass tones, and shoegaze textures, mixing those timelessly great techniques with big hooks, solid musicianship, and killer songs. \u00a0I discovered their only full length back in 2006, shortly after it was released, and it&#8217;s a seasonal favorite. \u00a0Over the years, I&#8217;ve clocked more plays on\u00a0<em>Personnel\u00a0<\/em>than I have any other album from that era, and know the whole record like the back of my hand. \u00a0However, I hadn&#8217;t heard anything else from them, and as like many bands from that era (including many of my own), I presume they broke up soon after.<\/p>\n<p>However, Jason was able to provide a rip of the two EPs that preceded\u00a0<em>Personnel<\/em>, completing the official discography. \u00a0The EPs are just as good, as one might suspect&#8230; \u00a0In general, fans of bands like The Chameleons, A Flock of Seagulls, and For Against&#8217;s <em>December<\/em>\u00a0should LOVE these guys, and I hope you enjoy these records as much as I do&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/the-floor-discography\/thefloordoll\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3038\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3038\" src=\"http:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/thefloordoll-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/thefloordoll-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/thefloordoll-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.systemsofromance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/thefloordoll.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Floor-\u00a0<em>Doll<\/em> (2003)<br \/>\n1.
