Epee Du Bois – Open Water K7 / SHAME! Holiday Party 2025

For today’s post (and possibly the last post of 2025, though who can say?), we have a bit of a special one that ties back into last September’s massive WIERD Records post. Many readers may be familiar with minimal synth solo artist Epee Du Bois, aka Cheyney Thompson. His absolute banger of a track, “Misery,” was a highlight among highlights on the second Wierd Records compilation, as is “Tracking Shot, which appears on the first. Thompson also appeared on the first compilation as part of Three to Forgotten, an early collaborative project also featuring Sean McBride and Liz Wendelbo of Xeno & Oaklander, who had a live reunion on stage at the final Wierd party in 2013.

While a handful of other Epee Du Bois tracks were released across various compilations, the project’s only solo release was Open Water, a cassette released by Living Tapes in 2010. The cassette featured a handful of new tracks and old favorites- recorded to reflect Epee Du Bois’ raw and powerful live show. The tape perfectly reflected the project’s heady balance of experimental electronics and minimal synth gems and was limited to 100 copies, which were hard to come by when it was released. With Cheyney’s blessing, I’m pleased to offer a download of this cassette:

In related news, Epee Du Bois will perform for the first time in over a decade at SHAME!’s holiday party, taking place this Thursday, 12/18, at Selva in Brooklyn. SHAME!, which was conceptually coined by L. Sangre and Pieter Schoolwerth many moons ago has finally come to full fruition this year, and serves to capture some of the same dark DIY energy as WIERD did so many years ago. The party features the dual DJ talents of L. Sangre and Liz Wendelbo, with guest DJs galore, including Shawn O’Sullivan From Led Er Est, our good friend and blog collaborator Goutroy, Shari from Void Vision, and yours truly.

This Thursday’s holiday party will be a special one, as not only will Epee Du Bois be performing, but L. Sangre will also be joined once more by WIERD’s Pieter Schoolwerth, making a Very Rare DJ appearance. This is not one to be missed!

Come for the dark, cold waves , mistletoe, rare live synth performance, expertly selected niche electronic music….. holiday cheer, and bring yr readiness to let absolutely loose in the darkness and fog…
