East Ash- Crushing A Flood
Gloomy days ahead, so here’s a post that fits the mood I’m currently rolling with at the moment. East Ash were a post-punk band from Columbia, Missouri, released on C’est La Morte records (read more here). This is the first of two albums, released in 1990 on LP and CD. Would be interested in hearing the second album, if anyone happens to have it.
The vocalist here reminds me an awful lot of David Eugene Edwards of 16 Horsepower/Wovenhand fame. Musically, it’s a hybrid of early Modern English, Joy Division, & the shimmer of The Joshua Tree (mostly heard in “A Flood”), with a manic disco edge thrown in for good measure. Dark, gloomy, and driving, just the way I like it. This one definitely should not be missed!

I found a copy of Ellie by East Ash. It's taking forever and a day to download and the files need some work – Ghod only knows what primitive tool was used to make them, but they can be saved. I will put the album in proper shape, and post a URL here…
Very happy for the rare opportunity to be of service!

Sorry guise, false alarm. What I found was supposedly Ellie by East Ash but once I finally got the whole thing to download it turned out to be an instrumental chill / lounge type album that could not possibly be East Ash. Dammit. Here's the thing I found, anyway: http://www.mediafire.com/?egxr55d7b54sh5j

Thanks for this nice find. I hear more than a little Gene Loves Jezebel. Good musicians here, even if the sound is derivative. Worth the listen!

Thanks for posting this. I took a stab in the dark that I might some of their music out there and was surprised to actually succeed. I was playing in another band in Columbia when East Ash was there, saw them many times and knew Jeff a little bit. I had one of their cassette releases from those days(1987?) and often wish I still had a copy of it around.

I have both albums on CD. Also have “Noise Ordinance”, which is a compilation of Columbia bands from ’91 or ’92, it has an East Ash track on it. Not that savvy, but could try to download Ellie for you. Get in touch.

Wow. I just happen to have a cassette recording of Ellie that just I got from a friend. The sound quality is very good. I’m absolutely blown away, and I’m about to take the mp3 of the entire album and make it available for anyone here if they want it. I found this site looking for more information on this band.

I had the chance to see them live in Louisiana back in 1989 or so. Great show.
