Nuvo West- Scary LP

Posted in 1980s, 1983, arizona, minimal, minimal synth, new wave, US with tags on June 26, 2012 by Frankie Teardrop

Here’s a rare and obscure minimal synth LP from Phoenix, Arizona, perfect for fans of Bugger West, Tone Set, Combined Minds, etc (the latter two who also hailed from Arizona). Varying degrees of DIY desert-synth magic here, my favorite track being the closing instrumental “Shades of Yesterday,” which almost feels like a synth version of Angelo Badalamenti’s Twin Peaks score… I do believe there’s a tape out there somewhere that precedes this LP, but no info about that one, sorry!

Thanks to Bx-59cppw for the donation!

Acute Logic- Moroccan Nights 7”

Posted in 1980, 1981, post-punk, synth, uk with tags on June 13, 2012 by Frankie Teardrop

As promised, here’s the lone 7” from the UK’s Acute Logic, previously featured on the last Systems of Romance comp. Very rare single from 1981 on Illogical Records, with very little info out there on the web. The band’s lineup was:

Pete Collins – Vocals & Guitar
Curt B – Keyboards
Brett Giddings – Bass
David S – Drums

This single took me a dog’s age to track down, and mine came without a picture sleeve and a little crackle.  Hey, I’ll take what I can get.  What YOU get however, is three incredible tracks that walk a fine line between Seventeen Seconds-era Cure and The Names. Pretty amazing touchstones… Don’t pass this one up!

Acute Logic- Moroccan Nights 7”
1. Moroccan Nights
2. The Obsession
3. Balcony

Bushido- The Sands of Nakajima & Deliverance LPs

Posted in Uncategorized on June 9, 2012 by Frankie Teardrop

Here are the two LPs from UK synth/experimental band Bushido, ripped freshly for your maximum listening pleasure. The project is the brainchild of Gary Levermore, who currently runs Nettwerk’s UK division and who also ran Third Mind records (Beautiful Pea Green Boat, Front Line Assembly, In the Nursery, Heavenly Bodies etc.) for a while. Other Third Mind artists have guested as well, including Chryss (Julia Niblock) from Attrition and Glenn Wallis of Whitehouse / Konstruktivist.

Two fantastic listens here, both which walk a fine line between ritualistic experimentation and skewed synthpop, often on the same track. Quite eclectic and engaging listens. The devil is in the details:
